A fisherman was killed in a boating accident on the Cal-Sag channel Sunday, June 20th when his boat was rear-ended by another boater.
A man and woman driving a boat swerved to avoid a log in the water and lost control, hitting 41-year old fisherman Bishr Swaiss’ boat and throwing him into the water. Officials say Swaiss could not swim and was not wearing a life jacket. Illinois state police officials also stated that they believe at least one of the boats was undergoing maintenance at the time of the accident.
The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the accident to determine whether any of the boaters will be charged.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Swaiss’ family and friends.

Earlier this month, the Obama administration made good on a promise made to Republicans in the fall to place funds in reducing medical malpractice lawsuits and costs.
25 million dollars worth of funds were approved to be distributed to universities, medical centers, and state health departments. The funds are intended to promote better doctor/patient communication and reduce injury, and as a result reduce medical malpractice lawsuits and lower liability insurance premiums.
In an address to Congress last September, President Obama stated, “I don’t believe malpractice reform is a silver bullet, but I’ve talked to enough doctors to know that defensive medicine may be contributing to unnecessary costs”.
