A jury sided with the plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed against two Kansas City police officers in connection with an arrest in 2004. Fred and Louise Jones’ lawsuit claimed that Officers Cory Le Moine and Ryan VanDeusen used excessive amounts of force during the 2004 arrest, leading to serious injuries for the couple.
According to the suit, Louise Jones’ injuries required her to undergo knee replacement surgery, running up nearly $40,000 in medical bills. In finding for the plaintiff, the Jackson County jury awarded Louise Jones $100,000 in compensation and $160,000 in punitive damages, and Fred Jones $5,000 in compensation and $80,000 in punitive damages.
