BMW announced August 13 that it is recalling 200,000 of its cars from the 2006 3 Series, 2004-06 5 Series and 2004-06 X3 SUVs. The problem is with the sensors that should detect whether there is a person sitting in the passenger seat. In some defective cars the sensors may not detect a passenger, which would cause the airbag not to deploy in a collision. BMW reports that no one has been injured yet, and that warning lights blink to alert passengers when the sensors are not working properly.
